Delicious chocolate baked donuts dipped in melted chocolate, decorated with Flake crumbs, and topped with Mini eggs and Malteser bunnies. A chocolate lovers dream!

Easter Baking
The Easter baking season is coming to an end, and I have to admit, I’m feeling a little sad! Over the past couple of months, I’ve loved creating cute, festive, and chocolatey Easter desserts, from themed treats to adorable mini bakes. It’s been so much fun, I almost forgot what “normal” baking feels like! But now it’s time to welcome fresh spring baking, think zesty lemons, citrusy oranges, juicy strawberries, and all things fruity. I can’t wait to share all these bright and delicious spring dessert recipes with you!
With Easter coming to a close, sadly that means Mini Eggs, Creme Eggs, and Malteser bunnies are disappearing from stores. I’ve seriously been tempted to stock up just to enjoy them all year long! But let’s be real… that could get expensive. For now, I’ll savour what’s left and use these delicious chocolates in some fun spring bakes to wrap up the Easter season on a sweet note.

Baked Donuts
How CUTE are these Easter baked donuts?! These Chocolate Baked Donut Easter Nests make the perfect springtime dessert! Light, fluffy, and packed with chocolatey goodness. Unlike traditional deep-fried donuts, baked donuts are made using a silicone donut mould and are much lighter in texture as they are made with cake, making them a great option for an easy homemade treat!
I went with a rich chocolate sponge to pair perfectly with the Malteser bunnies and Mini Eggs, but you can easily switch things up! A vanilla or lemon flavoured batter would work just as well, just use your favourite cupcake recipe and follow the same method to bake the donuts!
I topped these baked donuts with melted chocolate, crushed Flake bars, and Easter chocolates, these baked donuts are fun to decorate and perfect for getting kids involved in the kitchen this Easter holiday. If there is ever a time to go all-in on chocolate, Easter is it and these are chocolate heaven!

Ingredients
Here’s everything you need to create that soft, chocolate baked donuts with chocolate, delicious Malteser and Mini Eggs. This recipe uses simple baking ingredients, that you probably already have in your baking cupboard!
- Butter- When it comes to chocolate cakes, I swear by baking spread! It helps create a lighter, fluffier sponge. That said, feel free to swap it out for unsalted butter, both work beautifully.
- Sugar- For best results, I recommend using light brown sugar for chocolate sponges. It gives your cake a lovely sweetness!
- Eggs- I use 3 large eggs for this recipe.
- Flour- This recipe calls for self-raising flour, which gives the sponge all the rise it needs, no extra baking powder required. If you only have plain flour, just mix 200g of plain flour with 2 tsp of baking powder as a substitute.
- Cocoa Powder- I use this cocoa powder for my bakes but any cocoa powder will work well!
- Vanilla- You can’t have a chocolate cake without vanilla! I love using Vanilla Mart Vanilla Paste for chocolate sponges as it enhances the chocolatey flavour!
- Chocolate- For the topping, I used a milk chocolate spread! It’s quick, easy, and delicious! If you prefer, you can melt down milk chocolate instead! Either works beautifully for coating the donuts.
- Decorations- To give these baked donuts their festive Easter nest look, I topped them with Malteser bunnies, Mini Eggs, crushed Flakes, and some cute edible flower decorations. The combination adds texture, colour, and makes them absolutely perfect for spring and Easter celebrations. Plus, decorating is a great activity to do with kids this Easter holidays!

How To Make These Baked Donuts
These baked chocolate donuts are super simple to make and so fun to decorate! Here’s a step-by-step guide:
- Preheat your oven to Gas mark 4 and lightly grease a silicone donut mould or spray with non-stick baking spray.
- Making the batter in a mixing bowl/ large bowl. Beat together your softened baking spread and light brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add in your eggs and vanilla and mix until combined. Then, sift in the flour and cocoa powder, and pour in the milk. Gently fold the mixture together until just combined. Be careful not to over-mix, as this can make dense donuts instead of light and fluffy ones!
- Spoon the batter into your donut mould, filling each donut about ¾ full.
- Bake for 10–12 minutes or until the donuts spring back when gently pressed. Let them cool in the mould for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack!

- Decorate! Once cooled, dip each donut into milk chocolate spread. Sprinkle with crushed Flake bars, then decorate with Mini Eggs, Malteser Bunnies, and edible flowers.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I Need A Donut Mould For This Recipe?
Yes! I highly recommend getting a donut mould (or two!). They’re not very expensive and can easily be found on Amazon or other kitchenware retailers! Using a donut mould ensures that your donuts come out perfectly shaped and bake evenly! Mine are pink and yellow so even the moulds are cute! You can use a donut tin but I prefer the silicone ones!
Storage & Freezing
Although baked donuts can last for a few days when stored in an airtight container in a cool place, they are best enjoyed the day they’re made for the best taste and texture.
If you want to make them ahead of time, you can freeze the donuts (without any decoration). To do so, wrap each donut tightly in plastic wrap, placing a small square of baking paper between each one to prevent them from sticking together. Store the wrapped donuts in a freezer bag or airtight container and freeze for up to 3 months.
When you’re ready to enjoy them, simply thaw the donuts at room temperature, then add your toppings and decorations as desired!
Can I Make These Vanilla Instead?
Of course! Use 175g baking spread, 175g caster sugar, 175g self-raising flour, 3 large eggs, 1tsp vanilla and 3tbsp milk! You could also swap the milk chocolate spread for white chocolate spread and use white malteser bunnies! YUM.
